Brooklyn residents said they're excited for the prospect of new politics and free bus service after Mamdani won the mayoral election on Tuesday.

In a watershed moment for the Democratic Party, the Socialist Democrat beat former Governor Andrew Cuomo, a centrist.

As the election nears its end, President Donald Trump said he would send minimal federal funds to New York if Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani becomes the city's next mayor.

After weeks of silence, the Brooklyn Congressman endorsed the Democratic mayoral nominee, citing Mamdani's commitment to be the mayor for all New Yorkers, including those who do not support him.

"Am I angry that I am not the one taking down Zohran, the socialist and the communist? You're darn right I am," New York City Mayor Eric Adams said while endorsing his one-time rival. "But you know what? The city means more to me than anything."
