The New York City Board of Elections officially declared Zohran Mamdani the winner of the Democratic primary election for mayor. Brooklyn residents are loving it.

Primary elections let voters registered with a political party choose their party’s candidates for the general election. Poll sites opened at 6:00am and will close at 9:00pm on Tuesday, June 24.

The ranked-choice voting simulation over eight rounds ends with Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani at 52% and former Governor Andrew Cuomo at 48%, according to the Emerson College Polling/PIX11/The Hill survey.

There are many candidates to choose from in District 47, covering parts of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Gravesend and Coney Island.

Sabrina Gates, the deputy director of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, is trying to oust City Council Member Lincoln Restler from his post in District 33.

One day before early voting on the primary election begins, the city comptroller and state assemblyman asked supporters to place the other candidate in the #2 spot on their ranked-choice ballot.

Early voting starts Saturday, June 14 and runs through June 22. The primary election is on June 24.
