Adrienne Adams, the City Council speaker announced four major endorsements on Wednesday, giving her late-entry mayoral campaign a boost.

New York Attorney General Letitia James and District Council 37, the city's largest municipal union, both gave Speaker Adams their backing.

"Speaker Adams is a fearless leader who puts people over politics and fights back against chaos and fear from Washington," James said. "As our next mayor, I know she will keep standing up for all New Yorkers."

Speaker Adams entered the race later than the eight other major Democratic candidates in the June 24 primary, and she has yet to break through in public polling. The dual endorsements may aid her argument that she has the institutional support to defeat the current front-runner, former governor Andrew Cuomo, who has won the most support from most major unions so far, the New York Times reported.

DC27 released a statement on Tuesday night naming Speaker Adams as its first choice, followed by Zohran Mamdani and Zellnor Myrie, two state lawmakers, calling them “pro-worker candidates.”

Speaker Adams also picked up endorsements from two other unions: Unite Here Local 100, which represents hospitality workers, and Communications Workers of America Local 1180, which represents social service workers.
