Brooklyn's Sam Sutton Sworn In as New State Senator

After winning a special election on May 20, Brooklynite Sam Sutton was officially sworn in as a state senator representing District 22, which covers Midwood, Flatbush, Borough Park, Marine Park, Gerritsen Beach and Sheepshead Bay.

Sam Sutton, a long-time nonprofit executive and Sephardic community activist, was sworn in as a state senator representing D22, which covers Midwood, Flatbush, Borough Park, Marine Park, Gerritsen Beach and Sheepshead Bay.

Sam Sutton was officially sworn in Tuesday as the New York State Senator representing Senate District 22, which covers Midwood, Flatbush, Borough Park, Marine Park, Gerritsen Beach and Sheepshead Bay.

Sutton won a special election held on May 20, defeating Republican candidate R' Nachman Caller, to fill the seat left vacant by now city Council Member Simcha Felder.

"I am honored and humbled to take the oath of office for the 22nd State Senate District and I thank the voters for placing their trust in me to serve them in the State Senate," said Sutton in a statement. "I am eager to get to work, to listen, and to tirelessly advocate for the needs of our community here in Albany. We have much to accomplish, and I look forward to fighting for our community's priorities and for the residents of the 22nd District.”

Sutton is a long-time nonprofit executive and Sephardic community activist. A Brooklyn native, Sutton has worked for many nonprofits, including serving 30 years with Sephardic Bikur Holim, a social service organization. He has also worked for the Sephardic Community Federation, New York Cancer Center, the Safe Foundation, and is a former trustee of the Langone Medical Center at NYU Hospital.
