On Saturday afternoon, around 200 students from Brooklyn Technical High School in Fort Greene organized a rally around downtown Brooklyn in protest of the grand jury rulings in the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, reported NY1 News.
"We want to voice our opinions and show solidarity with the people of Ferguson and the people of New York who have been affected by this," said one student.Senior students began the protest with a march along the sidewalks to the DA's office to the Brooklyn federal courthouse while they received supportive cheers from onlookers. Then they met on the steps of Fort Greene Park to assemble and march back to the front doors for the "sit-in." "It is extremely unfair that this police officer has not got an indictment," said one student. "He killed him with an illegal chokehold that they banned a few years back. Why is he being choked? Tell me why?"
Mayor Bill de Blasio's son Dante, who is a student at Brooklyn Tech, did not participate in the protests.
