More than a year after Brooklyn Public Libraries first shut their doors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of local branches are reopening for in-person browsing and computer use.

On May 10, select branches across the five boroughs will allow the public to browse shelves for a set period of time and make appointments to use computers at select locations.

In Brooklyn, those locations are: Brownsville, Canarsie, Central, Clinton Hill, Coney Island, Crown Heights, Flatbush, Ft. Hamilton, Greenpoint, Kings Highway, Midwood, Mill Basin and Red Hook.

Additionally, people can start using The New York Public Library system to access the research collections by appointment beginning on May 10.

For all in-person services, the library is asking guests to wear masks, practice social distancing and respect time limits to ensure that as many avid readers can use the services as possible.

In a press release, the BPL it expected to add computer use and browsing to all of the grab-and-go locations in the coming weeks. It is also planning to provide outdoor programs in addition to continued virtual programs, classes, vaccination resources, and more.

The release said BPL is working towards opening additional locations this summer, and a full reopening as soon as possible in 2021.
