The New York Aquarium will celebrate World Oceans Day and National Ocean Month with its annual Ocean Shell-a-bration Weekend on June 6 - 7, offering two days of family-friendly activities focused on marine life, conservation and ocean education.

The event runs from 11:00am to 4:30pm each day and is included with regular aquarium admission. Members of the Wildlife Conservation Society receive free entry.

Visitors can explore exhibits featuring more than 4,500 aquatic animals and participate in interactive activities that highlight the importance of healthy oceans.

New attractions this year include Spineless Wonders chats, where guests can learn about marine invertebrates; ocean-themed face painting; sand-table artifact digs; bubble performances; marine trivia games; and Ocean Jeopardy challenges.

Several popular programs will also return, including keeper talks focused on penguins, sea lions and harbor seals. Guests can attend Aquatheater presentations showcasing California sea lions and learn about the specialized care provided by aquarium staff.

Additional activities include Wildlife Theater performances, themed crafts, a community mural, costumed character appearances and a parade through the aquarium grounds.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about animal care and conservation efforts through the Aquarium Insider's Station, which highlights the work of experts both at the aquarium and in the field.

The weekend coincides with World Oceans Day, observed annually on June 8. Established by the United Nations in 2008, the observance raises awareness about challenges facing marine ecosystems, including pollution, overfishing and climate change.

As part of the celebration, the aquarium will host a Coney Island Beach Sweep on June 6, from noon to 2:00pm. Participants will meet on the boardwalk outside the aquarium to help clean and protect the shoreline.

The New York Aquarium, operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society, is located on the Coney Island boardwalk and is open year-round.
