Teen in Custody After Brooklyn Playground Covered With Swastikas

Officers discovered approximately 16 of the painted symbols Monday near 56th Street and 18th Avenue. Two days later, 57 more swastikas appeared at the same location. A 15-year-old was taken into custody for the crime on Thursday.

A 15-year-old is in custody after nearly 60 swastikas were discovered at a playground in Brooklyn, according to ABC News 7.

It comes as New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin, who introduced antisemitism legislation in one of her first acts as speaker, visited Gravesend Park, where the dozens of swastikas were discovered.

She was joined by other Borough Park community leaders on Thursday afternoon.

The swastikas were painted on playground slides and on the wall of a handball court in red, yellow and blue paint with other antisemitic vandalism, the station reported.

The NYPD says this is being investigated as a hate crime.
