Returning for its fifth year at Brooklyn Public Library is Comic Con, where fantasy, cartooning, and the imagination converge for the pop-nerd culture greater good!
On Saturday, March 14, from 11:00am - 4:00pm, children, teens and adults are invited to be a kid again.
Activities will take place in the Youth Wing of the Information Commons Lab and the Dweck Auditorium where all can participate in roundtable discussions with game and comic creators; enter a cosplay contest; attend our drawing workshops; support creators in artist alley and more!
The library has secured an all-star lineup of comic superstars, including Calyn Pickens Rich (aka "Dr. Calyn"). the creator and "mad doctor" behind Dill Comics, a series about a kid with existential issues and a lemon stand; Alitha Martinez, a self-taught artist who now works as a penciling apprentice under Joe Quesada, for DC Comic's Azrael Ash and Event Comic's Ash and Pain Killer Jane; and Bishakh Som author of "The Other Side: An Anthology of Queer Paranormal Romance Comics," the first all-trans comics anthology and whose work has appeared in The New Yorker. And many many more!
Teens and adults are also invited to visit the library's intergenerational Comics and Zine Making Workshop hosted by the Information Commons from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Also, this year's Comic Con features the first cosplay contest. Show off your favorite cosplay and compete for a prize! There are four divisions: Children 6-12, Teens 13-19, Adults 19+, Groups/Family all ages (up to five cosplayers). Entrants may enter only once. Limited registration will be available at the event, so get your ticket ahead of time, here.
Comic Con is free and aside from the cosplay contest, no registration is required.
