Thousands of Con Edison customers in Brooklyn lost electricity on Tuesday and Wednesday amid a historic heat wave.

As temperatures soared over 100 degrees Fahrenheit across the city, the utility asked customers in wide swaths of the borough to conserve energy throughout both days. Areas affected included Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Bushwick, Bedford Stuyvesant, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, Park Slope, South Slope and Windsor Terrace on Tuesday.

By Wednesday, over 6,000 residents in East New York lost power, the utility said. Con Ed provided dry ice to residents from P.S. 189 on East New York Avenue. Residents in Brownsville, East Flatbush, Flatbush and Ocean-Hill were also affected.

The utility asked customers not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, and microwaves until crews complete repairs. The company also asks customers to limit unnecessary use of air conditioning.

"If you have two air conditioners, use only one and set it to the highest comfortable temperature," the company said in a statement.

There are still dozens of customers without power in Brooklyn, especially in Crown Heights, as of 1:30pm Thursday. Click here for the Con Ed power outage map.
