This month, the famous Brooklyn Brewery will serve its last rounds at 79 North 11th St., reported 6sqft. After operating out of the original Williamsburg location for nearly 30 years, the company is moving to 1 Wythe Ave. at a space nearly four times the size.

To say goodbye to its original spot and celebrate the move, the brewery is hosting its “Farewell Party: One Last Night at 79 N 11th” on Saturday, Aug. 29.

The new location’s soft opening is expected to come later this summer, followed by a grand opening into the fall. The new facility will include a rooftop terrace bar, expanded facilities, event spaces and a full kitchen to accommodate a full food menu.

“The new brewery gives us room to innovate with a state-of-the-art brewing facility while expanding far beyond beer alone,” brewmaster Garret Oliver told Brooklyn Paper when the new brewery was announced in 2022.

By the 1970s, none of the dozens of breweries opened at the beginning of the century in Brooklyn remained. Brooklyn Brewery first opened in 1996, with the goal of returning the brewing business to Brooklyn.

“When we moved to Williamsburg in 1991, spaces were practically being given away,” Eric Ottaway, CEO of Brooklyn Brewery, told Brooklyn Paper. “Williamsburg has completely transformed, and is now one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the city.”

According to Ottaway, commercial development in the area puts pressure on manufacturers to remain. New York Zoning, he said, sets aside buildings for industrial use, which has allowed Brooklyn Brewery to work with owners of 1 Wythe for a new location.
