New York City Parks Department officials on Thursday told community members that the Red Hook pool is expected to complete repairs and reopen by the end of July or sooner.
As the parks department got ready to open the pool in June, the filter plant beneath the pool flooded, delaying the opening of the pool for the second time in two years.
Parks officials told residents at a community meeting that the department received four motors and are currently in the process of replacing the failed system, according to a Parks Department spokesperson.
As repairs are being made, the spray shower continues to remain active from 11:00am to 7:00pm every day and can be accessed from the gates at Lorraine and Henry Streets. During the heat emergencies, spray shower use will be extended to 8:30pm, the spokesperson said.
Children and teens can still pick up free lunches at the pool. Meals are available to any New Yorker 18 and under, and no identification or registration is required.
Officials encouraged residents to head to the Douglass & Degraw Pool, at 250 Douglass St. or the Sunset Park Pool, at 7th Avenue and 41st St. as an alternative.
