Assemblymember Robert Carroll secured $40,000 in state funding for the structured literacy program at P.S. 154 in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn.

“This initiative is part of a broader effort to reform the way reading is taught in our schools,” said Carroll. “It is great to be working with Principal Rached and the P.S. 154 community and I am glad this funding can help their efforts to ensure all their students are fluent readers and successful in school.”

Carroll secured the funding for the programming in the current year’s state budget. The structured literacy program trains educators on evidence-based literacy instruction. Interventionists provide specialized instruction for students who are at risk for or diagnosed with dyslexia in standalone classes.

“At P.S. 154, we recognize the importance of literacy as the foundation for success for all students," said P.S. 154 principal Leila Rachad. "As educators, it is our duty to ensure that our children are strong readers, and it is an honor to work with Assemblymember Carroll to uplift this work through this generous grant. We appreciate his dedication to our students’ education, and we are excited to see the impact of this gift on our students’ education."
