Elite Learners Inc., a Brooklyn-based nonprofit, launched a youth-run farmers market on July 26, at Flatbush Junction. The market provides fresh produce while offering teens real-world job training and leadership experience.

The market will be open every Saturday through Nov. 22 from 9:00am to 4:00pm at the intersection of Flatbush and Nostrand Avenues. It will be staffed by young people ages 14 and older, working alongside senior volunteers to gain skills in entrepreneurship and customer service.

The market accepted EBT benefits, Health Bucks, cash and all major credit cards to ensure accessibility for all residents.

"This market represents everything Elite Learners stands for – empowering youth, strengthening communities, and creating positive change in our neighborhoods," said Camara Jackson, executive director of Elite Learners Inc. "When community members shop with us, they're not just buying fresh produce – they're investing in young people's futures."

The Youth Farmers Market aims to address food insecurity in the Flatbush area while promoting youth workforce development. The program also fosters intergenerational connections between teens and older adults who serve as mentors and volunteers.

"This initiative tackles food access challenges while creating meaningful opportunities for young people to develop business skills and community leadership," explained Jackson. "It's a model that serves immediate needs while building long-term community capacity."
