Council Member Susan Zhuang has secured $152,000 in funding for the NYPD’s 62nd Precinct to add two vehicles to its fleet and support police patrols across southern Brooklyn.
Zhuang presented the check Aug. 4 at the precinct's headquarters on Bath Avenue. The funding will pay for one new auxiliary van and one unmarked car, expanding resources available to officers serving Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend and surrounding neighborhoods.
The funding announcement was part of National Night Out, an annual event held in August in communities across the country to strengthen relationships between police and residents. The southern Brooklyn gathering combined the public safety focus with activities designed to bring families and neighbors together.
The investment provides the local precinct with additional transportation resources as officers respond to calls and conduct patrols across residential and commercial areas.
“Two new vehicles mean faster response times and more officers where our neighbors need them,” Zhuang said. “I hear from families across this district who want to feel safe walking to the store, to school, to the train. Tonight is about showing up for each other, and this funding is about making sure our precinct has what it takes to do the job.”
The event featured live music, entertainers, children’s shows, rides, food, raffles and games. Programming also included a ceremony honoring local community leaders.
The two vehicles will be added to the precinct’s fleet as part of its ongoing patrol operations in southern Brooklyn. The 62nd Precinct will continue using its expanded fleet to serve Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend and nearby communities.
