Young Guru Announces Full Scholarship for One Roc Nation School Student

A new scholarship will give one aspiring music industry student the opportunity to earn a tuition-free degree while receiving hands-on mentorship from one of the industry's most respected audio engineers.

Grammy-winning audio engineer, producer and educator Gimel "Young Guru" Keaton announced June 30 that he is sponsoring a full-tuition scholarship for a prospective student pursuing a degree at the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment at Long Island University.

Keaton, who serves as director of the school's Music Technology, Entrepreneurship & Production program, is encouraging prospective students to apply for the scholarship for the Fall 2026 semester.

Applications are open through 11:59pm ET on July 17, 2026. Eligible applicants must be seeking admission to the Roc Nation School for the Fall 2026 semester and submit either a written response or a video of up to three minutes explaining how they define success, how the scholarship will help them become the best version of themselves and where they see themselves in 10 years.

"Education and mentorship have always been at the heart of everything I do," said Young Guru. "This scholarship is about creating opportunities for the next generation of music industry professionals. I want these students to not only receive an incredible education, but also gain real-world experience, build meaningful relationships and leave prepared to shape the future of our industry."

The selected student will receive full tuition for four years, have the opportunity to shadow Young Guru throughout the academic year and work one-on-one with him in the school's Dolby Atmos-enabled professional studio. The recipient will also be eligible for mentorship through the Dean's Scholars Program, which provides professional mentoring, networking opportunities and career development programming.

The scholarship adds to a growing list of financial support available at the Brooklyn-based school, which opened in 2021 and prepares students for careers in music, sports, entrepreneurship and entertainment. Keaton previously sponsored a full-tuition scholarship in 2022.

Other scholarships at the school have been established by Grammy-winning musician and entrepreneur DJ Khaled, Grammy-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion and NBA All-Star LaMelo Ball.

The announcement follows Keaton's recent New York Music Month masterclass, Inside the Mix: Young Guru in the Studio, where participants received a behind-the-scenes look at the creative and technical process behind some of music's best-known recordings.

Students selected for the scholarship will begin their studies at the Roc Nation School during the Fall 2026 semester.
