The Brooklyn Public Library opened a pop-up library location Wednesday in Fort Greene, temporarily replacing the Walt Whitman branch as it undergoes a renovation.
The pop-up library is at 240 Nassau St., home of the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, according to a press release. Hours of service are Monday through Friday, from 10:00am to 1:45pm.
“[The] Walt Whitman Library has been a part of the Fort Greene community for nearly 120 years,” said Linda E. Johnson, president and chief executive officer of the Brooklyn Public Library. "While the branch undergoes a much-needed renovation, 240 Nassau will allow us to continue providing the library services the neighborhood relies on.”
The 3,000-square-foot space was allocated to BPL by Alloy Development at no charge. Patrons will be able to browse a small collection of books, get reference help, and sign up for a library card. Librarians will also host programs ranging from story time to resume help.
“Libraries are a critical resource and through this partnership, the community will be able to continue accessing BPL’s services and programs right here in Fort Greene," said Alloy’s Community Liaison Elizabeth Graham. "We look forward to welcoming our neighbors to the library!”
