A Sunset Park fire station will get a new command car thanks to funding from City Council Member Susan Zhuang.
Zhuang stopped by FDNY EMS Battalion 40 with a check for $323,000 on Thursday, noting her appreciation for the first responders.
“We quickly rely on our emergency responders when we desperately need help, and they’re there and eager to make sure we’re okay. Though we hardly think of what they need,” Zhuang said in a statement. “To see this funding make such an impact and hear first-hand what EMS staff needs inspires me to take on another fight for my community. We all deserve quality means to help each other live great and healthy lives.”
Zhuang said her visit to the battalion became a community-building event. FDNY Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker attended the meeting, as well as 49th Assembly District Leaders Tony Ko and Joyce Xie, and 8th Avenue business owners.
The Council Member spoke with EMS staff about their love for the job, but the financial strain of starting pay of only $30,000 a year.
