The Brooklyn Children’s Museum received a $25,000 grant from the Nissan Foundation to support its year-round cultural festivals for children and families.
The grant will help fund a range of events that highlight traditions from around the world. The festivals, held throughout the year, feature performances, cultural activities, art and food.
Events are designed to introduce young audiences to global customs while fostering understanding and inclusion across communities.
“Brooklyn is home to a vibrant array of cultures from around the world, and we’re proud to celebrate our borough’s families by uplifting their rich traditions for all to learn about through play and activations,” said Atiba T. Edwards, president and chief executive officer of the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
Upcoming programming includes Celebrate the Caribbean on Aug. 9. Past events have celebrated Kwanzaa, Holi, Lunar New Year, Eid al-Fitr, Día de los Muertos, Tu BiShvat and Black Future Festival.
The Nissan Foundation’s 2025 grant cycle brings its total giving to $17.7 million since its founding in 1992. The foundation supports organizations that promote education, cultural awareness and community engagement.
“The most meaningful change often starts at the local level - with people listening, learning and lifting one another up,” said Ali Tonn, senior manager of Philanthropy at Nissan North America and executive director of the Nissan Foundation.
