Gilbane Development, Blue Sea Development Company and JASA joined city leaders on Wednesday to celebrate the ribbon cutting of Linden Grove, a 153-unit, fully affordable senior housing development in Bushwick.

Located at 223 Linden St., the project is part of New York City’s Seniors First initiative, a broader effort to expand housing options and support aging in place for older adults, including on land owned by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA).

The 13-story, 100,000-square-foot building includes studio and one-bedroom apartments for seniors earning 30% to 40% of Area Median Income. Of the total units, 46 are reserved for formerly homeless seniors.

“The affordable housing crisis calls for innovative solutions, and Linden Grove is a powerful example of what public-private partnerships can achieve,” said Yarojin Robinson, senior vice president of affordable and mixed income housing at Gilbane Development. “Linden Grove not only sets a new standard for sustainable affordable housing, it’s also a long-term investment in seniors and the broader Bushwick community that ensures older New Yorkers have access to the high-quality, sustainable homes and supportive services they deserve.”

JASA will manage the property and provide on-site social services, including case management, wellness programming and support with accessing healthcare and public benefits. Staff will also coordinate community activities and conduct regular wellness checks to help residents remain stable and connected.

Amenities include free Wi-Fi throughout the building, a rooftop fitness room, arts and crafts space, laundry facilities and a furnished community lounge with computer stations.

Outdoor features include a landscaped recreation area, fitness equipment, a rooftop terrace and community gardens. Apartments are equipped with video intercoms, smart thermostats, USB charging outlets and energy-efficient appliances.

"At Linden Grove, we are witnessing the result of using innovative solutions to address housing challenges through beautiful design and environmental stewardship," said NYCHA Chief Executive Officer Lisa Bova-Hiatt. "This building will provide dozens of NYCHA residents with the opportunity to age in place within a senior-only community, complete with wellness programs and supportive amenities."

The building also includes a 2,000-square-foot community space that will be available at no cost to local nonprofit organizations and community groups for programming that serves Bushwick residents.
