The Top 10 Things You Should Know About The National Black Writers Conference Happening This Week

The conference will take place from Wednesday, March 20, to Saturday, March 23.

The National Black Writers Conference will take place at Medgar Evers College, CUNY, from March 20 to March 23. The conference will host more than 50 award-winning Black writers and will address the dangers of book bans, social justice activism, environmental racism, diversity, equity, inclusion blowback, the need for emotional healing and more.

Speakers include Michael Eric Dyson, Kevin Powell, Edwidge Danticat, Karen Hunter, Kwame Dawes, Marc Lamont Hill, Jelani Cobb, Bettina Love, Patricia Spears Jones and Donna Hill. Students, scholars, writers, readers, and literature enthusiasts of all genres, ages and backgrounds are welcome. 

Top 10 Things For You To Know 

  1. The Conference is from Wednesday, March 20 to Saturday, March 23, 2024 (and everyone is welcome).
  2. The Conference has free activities, and registration is very affordable. MEC and CUNY students may register for FREE!
  3. The Conference is designed for writers and readers of all ages and all genres. The schedule is online at centerforblackliterature.org/nbwc-2024-program/

  5. For NBWC2024, most events will occur at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. Only one event is virtual.
  6. Attendees can ask questions, network, and engage with all the writers and honorees.
  7. After their roundtable discussions, most writers will be available to sign copies of their books, which will also be available for purchase onsite!
  8. This is not the 17th annual Conference. The Conference was founded in 1986 at Medgar Evers College by John Oliver Killens and others and has been held periodically at MEC since then. Our language is specific and intentional, and our circumstance is nuanced. Please help us correct any and all inaccuracies by not using the word "annual" when referencing the Conference.
