The Brooklyn Children’s Museum has received a $5,000 grant from the Citizens Philanthropic Foundation to help expand access to play-based learning for Brooklyn families, regardless of their ability to pay.

The funding will support the museum’s Community Access initiative, including Community Access Thursdays, which provide free admission every Thursday from 2:00 - 5:00pm.

Already, nearly half of the museum’s visitors so far this year have been able to attend free of charge through the initiative.

“At Brooklyn Children's Museum, we believe every child deserves access to joyful, hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity and strengthen community,” said Atiba T. Edwards, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Children's Museum. “This grant allows more Brooklyn families to see the museum as a place where they belong.”

Community Access Thursdays are part of the museum’s broader efforts to make its programs available to more families. The initiative provides a regular opportunity for families to visit the museum without the cost of admission, making hands-on learning and play more accessible to Brooklyn residents.

The museum also supports the borough’s communities through partnerships with local organizations, employment opportunities for Brooklyn residents and efforts to create welcoming spaces for children and caregivers from diverse backgrounds.

Families can reserve free tickets for Community Access Thursdays in advance through the Brooklyn Children’s Museum website. Free admission is available every Thursday from 2:00-5:00pm, allowing families to participate in the museum’s exhibits and programming throughout the year.

The Citizens Philanthropic Foundation’s grant will help sustain these free-admission opportunities as Brooklyn Children’s Museum continues working to make its educational experiences more accessible to families across the borough.
