NAACP Kicks Off New Year With Brooklyn Black Agenda Assembly On Saturday

President Williams urged young people to participate in the crucial discussion that will shape the future of Brooklyn.
L. Joy Williams of the Brooklyn NAACP announced the date for Brooklyn Black Agenda Assembly.

The Brooklyn branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will kick off the new year with the Brooklyn Black Agenda Assembly on Saturday at Medgar Evers College.

In a New Year's video message, NAACP president L. Joy Williams said the gathering would facilitate an important dialogue for Brooklyn and set the tone for the NACCP's agenda for the year ahead.

"This is a crucial gathering where we will discuss and shape our legislative goals and priorities for the year. Your voice is essential in this process and discussion," said Williams.

Williams urged residents, including young people, to participate in the community-building and development initiatives taking place on Saturday afternoon.

"If you have young people in your life, make sure to bring them with you because this is an intergenerational fight and movement," she said. "As we move forward into 2024, let us keep our spirits high and our focus sharp; our strength lies in our unity."

Williams reflected on the legislation establishing a commission to study reparations in New York State and said it was one of the NAACP's highlights as it advocated for its passage.

Last month, the NAACP committed to participating in the commission to ensure the implementation of its recommendations, a crucial first step towards addressing past injustices.
