City Council Member Susan Zhuang on Monday presented a $3 million funding check to the Christa McAuliffe School, bringing the total amount she has secured for the Brooklyn school to $4.5 million.

The funding will support facility upgrades and new resources aimed at improving learning conditions for students. It is part of a larger package of education investments included in the city's budget for schools across southern Brooklyn.

"As elected officials, allocating city funds for these much-needed upgrades is paramount to what we must do as public servants, which is why I fight for our students every single day," Zhuang said in a statement.

Among the largest allocations is $5 million for Brooklyn Technical High School, where an aging Foundry space will be converted into a multimedia and research center. The project is expected to create additional collaborative learning areas for the school's nearly 6,000 students.

The investment follows longstanding concerns about limited technology resources at the school. Before the planned upgrades, Brooklyn Tech's library had only 12 computers and two printers available for student use.

Additional funding will support improvements at schools throughout District 43, including science lab renovations, auditorium upgrades, new technology installations, a hydroponic lab, playground improvements, bathroom renovations and upgraded security camera systems.

Schools slated to receive funding include I.S. 187, I.S. 227, J.H.S. 96, J.H.S. 227, K968, P.S. 97, P.S. 101, P.S. 105, P.S. 186, P.S. 205, P.S. 247, P.S. 331 and P.S. 682.
