The Legal Aid Society and BRIC Arts Media will host Community Joy Family Day + Forum on April 11 to mark Legal Aid’s 150th anniversary. The society brings together Brooklyn residents, artists and community leaders for a free public event. The program is presented in partnership with Brooklyn Org, Brooklyn Book Bodega and Booklyn.

The event is intended to strengthen community connections and promote resilience through collaboration and shared cultural experiences. Families will have access to a range of activities throughout the day. Children can select free books to take home from Brooklyn Book Bodega, which works to improve literacy among young people across New York City.

Programming will include live music by Building Beats DJ Pr3tty P, a reading by a local author and illustrator and interactive art activities for all ages. Booklyn will lead hands-on sessions focused on zine-making and vision board creation. Free food will be available to attendees.

The event will conclude with a community forum moderated by Dr. Jocelynne Rainey, president and chief executive officer of Brooklyn Org. The discussion will provide an opportunity for residents to share priorities, propose solutions and discuss their vision for Brooklyn with local leaders.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, from 11:00am to 2:30pm. Family Day activities will take place from 11:00am to 2:00pm and the community forum will run from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. The event will be held at BRIC House, 647 Fulton St., Brooklyn. It is free and open to the public.
