Leaders, innovators, students and community stakeholders will gather on April 28 for the Global Black Futures Summit, a one-day convening focused on advancing unity, building power and shaping strategy for Black communities in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

Hosted by the Dubois Bunche Center at Medgar Evers College, the summit is centered on the theme Black New York: Unity, Power and Strategy for a Changing World. It will examine how Black communities across New York can strengthen global connections, expand economic and political influence and develop long-term strategies for collective advancement.

The program will bring together participants from across sectors to address global and local challenges, including economic transformation, technological change, political polarization and community safety. It will also highlight opportunities for collaboration across the African diaspora.

The summit opens with a discussion on the state of Black communities in a changing world, focusing on how global shifts such as the rise of the Global South, advances in artificial intelligence and widening political divides are reshaping opportunity. The session emphasizes proactive strategy over reactive response.

A youth leadership segment will highlight emerging voices driving change through entrepreneurship, activism and global engagement, with attention to civic participation, technology and cultural influence.

Community safety discussions will focus on prevention-based approaches, exploring local partnerships, public safety strategies and the role of innovation in strengthening neighborhoods.

Additional sessions will examine global Black solidarity, wealth building and political power, including access to capital, cooperative economics, voting rights and broader civic influence.

The summit will conclude with a cultural program featuring performance, storytelling and creative expression, underscoring the role of culture in community connection and collective identity.
