Instructors from around the world will present a wide array of free classes in topics ranging from photography to Tibetan meditation practice during the Brooklyn Public Library's University Open Air from April 25 through April 27 at the Library for Arts & Culture.

Instructors represent every region of the globe hailing from China, Colombia, France, Gabon, Jamaica, Israel, Russia, Tibet, Uganda and Venezuela, according to a press release.

Playwright and author Achiro Olwoch will explore the allure of survival stories and help participants craft one of their own. Costume designer and fiber artist, Hilla Shapira, will explore clothing as a representation of identity, tracing the ways our garments connect us to people, places and memories. Educator Julia Adams will share the deep cultural significance of chopsticks in China and their importance in daily life and rituals, from meals to ceremonies, while chef and artist Naama Levit will explore how food preservation techniques—like fermenting, pickling and drying—foster resilience, self-sufficiency and collective care.

“We are delighted that class is back in session at University Open Air,” said Jàkab Laszló Orsós, vice president of Arts and Culture for Brooklyn Public Library. “Amid the backdrop of a rapidly changing world, we invite all who are curious to spend a few hours with us, learning from our esteemed faculty of international artists, educators and writers in the beautiful new Library for Arts and Culture.”

A complete schedule and instructor bios can be found here. All of the classes are free and open to the public. Registration is highly recommended as space may be limited.
