The family of Christin Emile, a 33-year-old Brooklyn resident who was fatally shot by police officers last Mother’s Day, rallied in East Flatbush on Saturday to call for long-overdue accountability.
Joined by friends and community members, the Emile family asked for the New York Attorney General’s Office to provide them with updates on its investigation, according to a press release.
The Emile family also again called on the NYPD to immediately terminate the officers responsible for killing.
“Last Mother’s Day, I lost my only child to a hail of bullets from the NYPD," said Tarnisha Woolard, Christin Emile’s mother. "Instead of celebrating the day with Christin, I was left with a nightmare that hasn’t ended. I still don’t have answers. I still don’t have accountability. The Attorney General’s Office has said nothing. The NYPD has done nothing. My son mattered. He was a father, a son, and a human being — not a threat. I am demanding justice, and I won’t stop until the officers who killed my child are held responsible.”

The event also served as a celebration of Emile's life, featuring a heartfelt balloon release, shared meals and activities for families and children, as the community came together to honor his memory in joy and solidarity.
On May 12, 2024, at around 1:00am, Emile was confronted by NYPD officers in East Flatbush. NYPD officers at the scene initially claimed that Emile pointed a gun at a police officer prior to the shooting, later publicly claiming instead that he pointed a gun at a bystander. According to the autopsy report, Emile was shot at least six times, and at least one bystander was also shot by NYPD officers, according to Kaishian & Mortazavi LLC, the law firm representing the Emile family.
“It's been a full year since Christin Emile was killed by NYPD officers, and not a single step has been taken toward accountability,” said MK Kaishian, attorney to the Emile family and founding partner at Kaishian & Mortazavi LLC. "That is an insult to the Emile family and a threat to public safety. We are demanding justice not only for Christin, but for every mother who has been forced to bury a child because of police violence.”
