On Thursday, the 2,400 graduates of Kingsborough Community College will be joined by an unexpected alumnus who will also have his degree conferredÂ… Chris Rock.

The actor, comedian and director will receive an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from the City University of New York at Kingsborough Community College's 56th Commencement Exercises on Thursday, June 17.

Although Rock only studied communications at Kingsborough Community College, Brooklyn's only community college and a member of the City University of New York, for one year, he said: "Some of the things I learned [at Kingsborough] I apply even today."

Kingsborough President Dr. Claudia V. Schrader said she was very pleased to bestow the Honorary Doctorate to Rock, who happened to be her "favorite comedian and an incredible actor."

"We are glad that Kingsborough has been a part of his educational journey and that his experiences here helped shaped his success," she said.

"He serves as an inspiration to this year's awesome and resilient group of college graduates — the Class of 2021 — who have persevered through one of the most challenging times in our country, and achieved academic success."

The live and pre-recorded ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 17 at 11:00am.
