The City University of New York (CUNY) named its new interim president for Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn.
Suri Duitch, a two-time CUNY alumna, has been selected to lead Kingsborough, pending CUNY Board of Trustees approval.
Duitch, who has more than 12 years of experience in CUNY leadership roles under her belt, returns to the university system after previously working for seven years at Tulane University School of Professional Advancement.
During her time with CUNY, Duitch worked for the university’s Office of Academic Affairs for 10 years, which included serving as the university dean for education and workforce development and deputy to the senior university dean for academic affairs, among others.
In addition, Duitch was also previously part of the founding leadership team of CUNY’s School of Professional Studies, which was established in 2003 as the university’s premier school for adult learners.
“I look forward to returning to CUNY and to Brooklyn, and most of all, to the tremendous opportunity to join the Kingsborough community and help to shape it for its next stage of greatness,” said Duitch. “I have long admired the school for its excellence and effectiveness in providing transformative educational opportunities to the diverse communities of New York.”
Kingsborough, located in Manhattan Beach, serves approximately 11,000 students and an additional 20,000 enrolled in continuing education.
Duitch is set to take over the presidential reigns of former Kingsborough president, Claudia V. Schrader, who was recently picked as the interim president of York College in Queens.
CUNY Chancellor Matos Rodríguez expressed his confidence in both newly-named interim presidents to shine in their respective roles.
“With the appointments of Dr. Schrader and Dr. Duitch, I’m confident that our Kingsborough and York campus communities will continue to have strong and enthusiastic leadership in a time of transition,” said Rodríguez. “Dr. Duitch’s extensive experience and deep institutional knowledge of CUNY will be valuable assets to Kingsborough.”
