Constructive Partnerships Unlimited has opened a new two-story space in Brooklyn that will serve as the new center for its Day Hab Without Walls program, expanding opportunities for people with disabilities to develop vocational and independent-living skills.
The program currently serves more than 70 participants across New York City. Rather than spending their days exclusively in traditional facility settings, participants take part in activities throughout their communities. The new center provides additional space for CP Unlimited’s vocational services, including job placement assistance, work outreach and community-based programming.
The new hub is located at 921 East New York Ave., and Brooklyn's second location can be found at Carmen Aquione Center at 842A Lefferts Ave.
Representatives from the Brooklyn borough president’s office attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new location, marking the opening of a space intended to support the program’s continued growth.
Programming can include volunteer placements, museum visits, fitness and recreational classes, as well as opportunities to practice travel and other everyday skills. Through the agency’s Supported Employment Program and ACCES-VR program, participants receive assistance pursuing employment opportunities with organizations including the Department of Education, Primark, Burlington, Shake Shack and NYU.
“Day Hab Without Walls is lots of fun," said Jeanou S., one of the participants. "I get to meet people in the community. Instead of staying in a traditional facility, people can spend their days out in the local community, building travel skills, visiting museums, [and] attending fitness and recreational classes."
The new Brooklyn center will serve as a hub for Day Hab Without Walls and support CP Unlimited’s ongoing vocational programming. Participants will continue volunteering and participating in activities at locations throughout Brooklyn and other parts of New York City.
The agency will continue its Day Hab Without Walls programming alongside employment services through its Supported Employment Program and ACCES-VR, providing participants with opportunities to develop skills and pursue greater participation in work and community life.
