The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce was able to disperse a total of $75,000 in grant checks to a dozen small businesses impacted by the rainstorm that wreaked havoc across Brooklyn on September 29 of this year. The storm caused significant damages to numerous businesses across Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce documented dozens of businesses who suffered damage during the storm.

Following this survey of businesses, the Chamber team worked with New York Presbyterian Health System and Wells Fargo Bank, who generously provided $75,000 to those most severely affected.

“When the rain pounded Kings County in September, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce jumped into action, connecting with small businesses owners who experienced severe losses caused by the water damage. Thanks to the donations from New York Presbyterian and Wells Fargo, it will be a little easier for these merchants to recover. There’s nobody better than the team at the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce when it comes to delivering for small businesses," said Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Randy Peers.

Over two days in November, the Brooklyn Chamber leadership shared grant checks to 12 Brooklyn businesses who saw some of the most storm damage. The businesses who receive grant checks include:

  • APNA Brooklyn Day Care (Bath Beach and Brighton Beach)
  • Bogota Bistro
  • Brooklyn Artery
  • Brooklyn Burgers and Beer
  • Bushwick Grind
  • Gowanus Gardens
  • Mexico Diner
  • La Nueva
  • Mermaid Prime Meats
  • Ms Pat Meat Market
  • Pimental Grocery
  • Root Hill Cafe

“When the storm hit, the rain just wouldn’t stop, and it devastated the Brighton Beach and Bath Beach business community. We immediately reached out to the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, who leapt into action. The Chamber President Randy Peers personally visited our center and helped us in getting connected with the Department of Environmental Protection to do the site visit," said Pervez Siddiqui, business owner and President of APNA Adult Day Care.

"We’re so thankful for this grant check that will help the APNA Adult Day Care, which provides critical services to our seniors and the neighborhood as well."
