The Brooklyn Public Library is celebrating Earth Month with free events throughout April at various library branches.
There are programs with hands-on green learning, community building, crafting, to exploring the waterfront.
Fix It in Flatbush
Thursday, April 16, 6:00pm at Flatbush Library, 22 Linden Blvd.
Repair, craft and connect. Attendees will learn hand-sewing basics and create a hand-stitched needle book to take home. Additional workshops continue on Thursdays in April at 6:00pm.
Brooklyn’s Lost and Future Waterfront
Thursday, April 16, 6:30pm at Center for Brooklyn History, 128 Pierrepont St.
Landscape ecologist Eric W. Sanderson, author of Mannahatta, explores Brooklyn before 1609 and the borough’s evolving waterfront. The talk includes visual renderings and a discussion of reclamation efforts today. Presented with Brooklyn Greenway Initiative and NYC Greenways Coalition. Climate reporter Samantha Maldonado moderates.
Gerritsen Beach Plant Swap

Swap seedlings, cuttings, potted plants, or seeds with local gardeners. Take home something new for your garden.
Community Sculpture Building

Walt Whitman Library invites visitors to build a collaborative sculpture from biodegradable materials at the Fort Greene Park Conservancy’s Earth Day Festival.
Cardboard Pinball

Children ages 10–14 can construct a pinball game entirely from cardboard and mixed media.
Seed Bomb Workshop

Make seed bombs, seeds wrapped in compost and clay, for easy planting in gardens.
Magical Garden Scavenger Hunt

Follow clues with iPads to uncover tea plants, learn their uses and restore the Mad Hatter’s magical garden before the Queen arrives.
