The Brooklyn Prom Project, the local chapter of the Operation Prom National Network, will receive special recognition from Kings Plaza Shopping Mall in Flatbush and its parent company, Macerich, for its work with graduating high school seniors.

The Brooklyn Prom Project provides seniors in good academic standing with the resources to receive free formal wear to attend their prom. Each school year, local chapters around the nation collect and distribute formal wear as well as accessories such as shoes, jewelry, ties and bow ties.

“The holidays are about celebrating those who are close to us, and nothing speaks to our hearts and the hearts of our community like children’s faces alight with the joy of the season," said Dawn Simon, area senior manager of marketing at Kings Plaza. “It’s all part of how Macerich and Kings Plaza live our values as a true community partner.”

In addition to its award, Brooklyn Prom Project was asked to recognize two local heroes for their work in the community. The organization selected volunteers Renee Charles and Quintasia Welch for their outstanding fundraising efforts. Charles and Welch will each receive a $250 gift card.

“Kings Plaza has played a critical role over the past 10+ years by donating space as a collection site, hosting community-wide giveaway events, and supporting our efforts to help ensure that students are able to attend their prom with the perfect dress or tuxedo. We could not do the work that we do without volunteers like Renee and Quintasia, who dedicate their time to help make prom dreams come true,” said Noel D’Allacco, founder of Operation Prom National Network.

Shoppers can join the fun at a gift-wrapping event on December 16, at 4:00pm. at 5100 Kings Plaza, in Flatbush, Brooklyn, where Kings Plaza will recognize Brooklyn Prom Project and Charles and Welch.
