In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Irie Jam Foundation brought together a dynamic group of voices for Purpose Talks: Resilience, Roots & Revolution, held March 27 at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. The panel-centered event focused on women’s leadership, cultural identity and community impact, drawing a diverse audience of professionals, advocates and local residents seeking connection and inspiration.

The evening featured an accomplished lineup of speakers, including Miss Jones, Nora Yahya, Simone Jones, Kenya Handy-Hillard, Zoe N. Clarke and Kenya Johnson. Representing a range of industries and lived experiences, the panelists offered personal reflections on their journeys, speaking candidly about obstacles they have faced, the lessons learned along the way and the importance of self-investment.

Their stories underscored a shared commitment to uplifting others and building stronger, more connected communities.

Throughout the discussion, themes of resilience and cultural pride remained central. Panelists explored how their roots have shaped their perspectives and informed their work, particularly within the Caribbean diaspora. They highlighted the importance of maintaining cultural traditions while also creating space for growth, innovation and healing.

The conversation emphasized that leadership is not only about professional success but also about service, mentorship and the willingness to create opportunities for others.

The event also created space for reflection and dialogue, encouraging attendees to consider their own paths and the ways they contribute to their communities. By fostering an environment grounded in openness and shared experience, Purpose Talks reinforced the idea that storytelling can be a powerful tool for connection and empowerment. Attendees were invited to engage with the panelists’ insights, ask questions and carry those lessons forward in their own lives.

Organized by the Irie Jam Foundation, the gathering highlighted the organization’s ongoing commitment to celebrating Caribbean culture and supporting community-driven initiatives. Purpose Talks served as an extension of that mission, offering a platform where voices could be heard, experiences validated and collective strength recognized.

By the end of the evening, the impact of the event was clear. Attendees left feeling energized and inspired, with a renewed sense of purpose and possibility. The conversations sparked during the panel demonstrated the value of intentional spaces that center women’s voices and experiences, particularly within communities that draw strength from shared heritage.

As Women’s History Month continues to shine a light on the contributions of women past and present, events like Purpose Talks illustrate how those legacies are carried forward. Through dialogue, reflection and community engagement, the gathering not only honored resilience and cultural roots but also encouraged meaningful action and continued growth.
