Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, a 174-year-old Catholic Lasallian institution in Fort Greene, completed construction of The Brian C. Connolly Field, a modern synthetic turf field that marks a major investment in the school’s athletic and academic future while strengthening ties to the wider Brooklyn community.
The project, which broke ground in July, features an XT50 multipurpose turf system designed for soccer, lacrosse and softball, with the Loughlin Lions logo at its center.
The surrounding track, a longstanding part of the school’s athletic program, has also been upgraded.
“This project is more than just a field—it is a statement of Bishop Loughlin’s vision and enduring commitment to Brooklyn students and families,” said Principal Ed Bolan, a Loughlin graduate of 1978. “Our students deserve facilities that match their talent and ambition.”
New additions include a portable backstop, dugouts and mobile goals to accommodate multiple sports.
The project was made possible through alumni donations and the Loughlin Foundation, with a leadership investment from Brian C. Connolly, Class of 1973, for whom the field is named.
Additional support came from Pamela Sloan, BMD ’73 and Maureen Moss McInerney, BMD ’66, as well as guidance from Head Lacrosse Coach and English faculty member Nicholas Dilonardo, who helped shape the project to meet student and athletic needs.
The field is intended to serve not only as a premier home for Loughlin athletics but also as a resource for local sports leagues and community organizations. Proceeds from rentals will support scholarships for Loughlin families and students.
“For nearly 175 years, Bishop Loughlin has been educating leaders in Brooklyn,” said Brother Dennis Cronin, president of the high school. “This investment ensures that future generations of Loughlin Lions will continue building their skills on and off the field.”
