The 17th Annual Moving Mountains for the Arts Gala lit up Brooklyn on June 11,with a celebration of artistry, athleticism and impact.
Hosted by NBC’s Kay Angrum, the evening brought together performers, philanthropists and community leaders in support of Moving Mountains, a Brooklyn nonprofit founded by actor Jamie Hector that offers free, professional-level training in acting, singing and dance to inner-city youth.
The red carpet event honored three trailblazers for their achievements across music, sports and humanitarian work. Busta Rhymes received the Hip Hop Icon Award, Breanna Stewart was recognized with the Athlete Icon Award and Malik Yoba was presented with the Dream Maker Icon Award.
The gala also featured performances by young participants from the Moving Mountains program, showcasing their skills in acting, dance and song. The energy and talent on stage highlighted the transformative impact of the organization’s work.
Among those in attendance were Rev. Dr. A.R. Bernard, Harlem Children’s Zone Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Canada, actor Chad L. Coleman, Council Member Rita Joseph and actress Alfie Fuller, joining a room of supporters committed to nurturing the next generation of artists.
Alumni from the nonprofit have gone on to thrive in film, television and theater, underscoring the organization’s mission to open doors and expand possibilities for young creatives.
