It's "Cool to be Kinky" at 5th Annual Curlfest in Prospect Park

What is a "Curlygirl?"
Well, according to the fifth annual Curlfest in Prospect Park on Saturday, a curlygirl is woman of African descent who proudly dons her natural, curly tresses, void of hot combs, chemicals or presses...
But, in actuality, it's not only about the curls...
It's also about the cornrows, the kinks, the locs, the links, the knots, the plaits, the afros, the naps! A curlygirl's crown is as vast and diverse as The Continent itself!
It was a parade of cultural pride as curlygirls of all ages and from as far as Houston and Chicago to Philly and Washington, DC, converged on Brooklyn this past weekend in celebration of natural hair in all its glorious forms. Between the DJ sets, dancing and hair care presentations, festival-goers also had an opportunity to learn about and receive free samples from a bevy of natural hair care brands.
Laughter and smiles were unlimited.
