The newly refurbished Brooklyn Paramount theater opened its doors Thursday after its last live show 60 years ago.

The theater, on the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb Avenues, is known to be the venue that introduced the borough to jazz and served as an early home of rock n' roll. Brooklyn Paramount once hosted icons such as Buddy Holly & The Crickets, Chuck Berry, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Domino, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Little Richard, Miles Davis, and Ray Charles, according to a news release.

The venue’s first live performance on Thursday featured Grammy award-winning brothers Damian & Stephen Marley on their inaugural co-headlining Traffic Jam Tour 2024.

Constructed in 1928, the theater as been used by Long Island University's Brooklyn campus since 1954. In 2015, the university agreed to lease the theater space so that it could be converted back into a live music venue. It is currently operated by Live Nation Entertainment.

More than 60 shows are now on sale including PinkPantheress, Norah Jones, Sting and Mariah The Scientist - with more acts to be announced in the coming weeks.
