The New York City Emergency Management Department issued a city-wide travel advisory for Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning due to expected heavy rain and high winds.

Brooklyn is expected to experience high wind accompanied by coastal flooding due to the impacts of a heavy storm in the region. A downpour is expected between 9:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., with scattered rain persisting through Wednesday afternoon, with a chance of thunderstorms and lightning overnight, according to a press release.

The rainfall is expected to amount to 2 to 3 inches at rates around 0.5 inch per hour, with higher amounts and rates possible in different locations. There also could be overnight flooding, localized flash flooding of roadways and properties and a chance of residual flooding on Wednesday morning.

The city will have high winds from 6:00 p.m. today to 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, and a coastal flooding advisory warning was issued for Brooklyn.

"Our city government is prepared to respond to whatever comes our way, but residents should also take the necessary precautions to stay safe and protect their belongings. I encourage all New Yorkers to sign up for Notify NYC to get the latest information and closely monitor the forecast as this storm approaches," Mayor Eric Adams said.
