In what can easily be described as a unique cycling tour, Bike the Branches has invited over a thousand local bike enthusiasts on a tour that hits all 61 of Brooklyn's Public Library offerings.  According to a recent report, the annual event took place this last Saturday as Brooklynites came together to take the tour.  New York City is many things if not just a wealth of knowledge.  These often overlooked, expansive libraries offer wide collections and access for any resident with a local address.

To document and commemorate the journey, participates could donate to the fundraising event by purchasing a "passport".  This unique booklet lets the riders accumulate stamps at each local library branch.  The riders could choose to follow a specific route or they could visit branches of their choice.    Some riders expressed surprise once they began to find new facilities that were much closet to home than expected.

"I have been down Myrtle Avenue many times, but I'd never seen it," said Evan Newell, who enjoyed his first ride this year.

The dynamic event also hosted food vendors who were expertly prepared to serve the bikers as they continued on their journey.  Families of all sizes expressed their gratitude for an event that promotes being active and informed at the same time.
