Crime is up 35 percent for the week of July 7  — July 13, 2014, in the 71st Precinct, covering the southern end of Crown Heights.

According to CompStat, there were 31 total reported incidents in the 71st precinct, compared to 23 incidents during this same week last year. For the 28-day cycle, crime is down 11 percent, with 103 reported incidents, compared to 116 incidents during this same time period in 2013.

And year to date, crime is down 12 percent, with 757 reported incidents, compared to 862 during this same time period last year.

Year to date, there have been two reported murder, compared to six at this same time last year.

The biggest percentage drop in crime so far is seen in the number of murders, down 67 percent. And the biggest percentage jump is in the number of rapes, an 18 percent increase, with 13 reported so far this year, compared to 11 last year.

Shootings

On Tuesday, July 21, at approximately 7:30pm, in front of 265 Hawthorne Street, two men were involved in a verbal altercation that turned violent when on male pulled out a firearm and shot the other male 4 times. The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

On Wednesday, July 22, one male was shot in the lower abdomen at the corner of Washington Ave and Montgomery Street for unknown reasons. At this time it is early in the investigation but we believe the victim knows the perpetrator and was the intended target, reported 71st Pct police. The victim was taken to  Kings County Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
