On Thursday, April 17, at the Job Corps Center on Dekalb Avenue, City Councilmember Robert Cornegy convened a meeting of community stakeholders to develop a strategy to address the core issues of gun violence. Bedford-Stuyveseant and Crown Heights.

The meeting focused on implementing a strategy before the onset of hot weather, which often correlates with an escalation of violence.

Captain Julio E. Delgado of Police Service Area 3 attended, as well as members of Save Our Streets, a charter school community liaison, Community Board 3 members, an EMT volunteer, the civic engagement chair of 500 Men Making a Difference, and concerned residents.

On the agenda for discussion was a survey of recent shootings and their locations, the gaps in coverage, and community mobilization, including recruiting violence interrupters locally.
