Brooklyn will once again take center stage in one of New York City’s quirkiest end-of-summer traditions, the 16th annual NYC Unicycle Festival.
Presented by Brooklyn-based Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, the festival happens in various parts of the city between Aug. 28 - Aug. 31.
One of the main attractions is a ride through Brooklyn on Aug. 29, with a massive 13-mile ride from City Hall across the Brooklyn Bridge to Coney Island. Known as Brooklyn Unicycle Day, the event invites riders of all skill levels to hop on one wheel and cruise through the borough, ending with a seaside celebration along the iconic boardwalk. It’s one part athletic feat, one part street spectacle and fully family friendly.
“We never imagined that this quirky and fun little idea we had sixteen years ago would become a beloved New York City tradition that many people look forward to each year, including us,” said Bindlestiff Family Cirkus Co-Founder Keith Nelson. “If you’ve ever wanted to see unicyclists in action or maybe even try one out for yourself, the Unicycle Festival is for you.”
Other planned rides includes the west side of Manhattan along the Hudson River on Aug. 28, and a festival at Pier 76 in Manhattan on Aug. 30 and 31.
