Summer Streets, where major thoroughfares in each borough become car free, kicks off on July 26.

On Saturday, Queens will see Vernon Boulevard, from 44th Drive to 30th Drive, open up, giving people access to the waterfront in Long Island City and Astoria. Staten Island’s brand-new route will run along Forest Avenue from Broadway to Bard Avenue.

"We’re not just opening streets this summer, we’re opening opportunities for a more vibrant, inclusive, and active city on 22 miles of car-free streets," New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement when he announced the initiative.

Summer Saturdays in Brooklyn will see Eastern Parkway transformed into a car-free community space on Aug. 23.

Eastern Parkway’s route will stretch from Grand Army Plaza to Buffalo Avenue. It will connect Prospect Heights and Brownsville along the same vibrant corridor that hosts the annual Caribbean Day Parade.

Across the city, Summer Streets, running from 7:00am to 3:00pm, will feature art installations, performances and activities at rest stops. Citi Bike will offer free day passes throughout the program using the promo code LYFTSUMMER25 in the Citi Bike app.

NYRR Start Line Series, a free run and walk events in partnership with New York Road Runners, will also be activated in Brooklyn. For registration information, click here.

With over half a million participants last year, the city expects even greater turnout this summer.
