Hundreds of people attended a Crown Heights block party on Saturday, as Stoop Set returned for its second installment on Franklin Avenue.
Hosted by The Block Association, an events planning company, and Good People NYC, a community outreach organization, the event spanned eight blocks, from Eastern Parkway to Dean Street.
Neighbors, artists, families and visitors filled the block turning Franklin Avenue into a vibrant celebration of local culture. As temperatures climbed, speakers blasted classic Hip Hop, R&B, house and soul. Attendees danced shoulder to shoulder and fanned themselves against the afternoon heat as DJ Iconik One, DJ CEO and guest DJ Funk Flex drew people from their stoops and onto the streets.
Stoop Set was founded by community organizer and state Senate candidate Marlon Rice. The event reflects his belief that community gatherings are more than entertainment, but one that represents unity and cultural preservation.
In a city that is constantly changing, events like Stoop Set continue to prove that some of Brooklyn’s most meaningful moments still happen right outside our front door.
