Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy on Monday announced the lineup for its 9th Annual Jamaica Bay Festival, taking place on Saturday, July 25, as part of City of Water Day.
One of New York City's largest waterfront celebrations, the festival invites thousands of residents and visitors to explore the bay's 44 square miles of parklands, beaches, wetlands and waterways through more than 45 free activities celebrating recreation, nature, arts and stewardship.
More than 30 community organizations and local partners will host a full day of free, family-friendly activities from morning through evening. Visitors can enjoy kayaking, birding, shoreline cleanups, yoga, guided nature walks, art workshops, and more.
The festival celebrates Jamaica Bay as one of the country's most important urban estuaries while connecting New Yorkers of all ages with the natural, cultural, and recreational treasures of their waterfront.
“The Jamaica Bay Festival, and its many community partners, invites neighbors and visitors to get outside and experience all our local environment has to offer," said Terri Carta, executive director of JBRPC. "We are committed to increasing awareness of Jamaica Bay as NYC's largest tidal estuary and JBRPC's mission to steward parklands and natural areas within our catchment, which includes a third of the city's coastline."
The festival is one of several JBRPC public engagement and stewardship initiatives that receive public funding through the offices of state Senator Roxanne Persaud, Assemblymembers Stacey Pheffer-Amato and Jaime R. Williams, Former NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, and Council Members Joann Ariola, Selvena Brooks-Powers, and Mercedes Narcisse.
