The African Pop-up Festival returns to Hillel Plaza at Flatbush-Nostrand Junction on July 26 and 27, for a two-day celebration of African, Caribbean and African American culture. The event will run from noon to 8:00pm both days.

The event will feature food tastings, artisan vendors, music, cultural performances and cooking competitions. Local chefs will present dishes from across the African diaspora, while DJs spin genres like Afrobeats, soca, Kompa, Amapiano and R&B. Attendees can browse a vendor marketplace offering handmade goods, take part in art exhibitions and live painting, and enjoy live music and dance showcases.

“The African Pop-up Festival is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of our community’s resilience, creativity and cultural heritage,” said Akin Akinsanya, the festival organizer.

Highlights include a chef contest and cooking demonstrations, the Fierce Fearless Entrepreneurs Challenge where six small business owners pitch their ideas in 90 seconds, and a Jollof rice tasting competition where guests vote for the best dish. Winners of the food contests will receive $250 cash prizes.

"This festival is a wonderful opportunity for us to connect with the community, share our passion and support local businesses," said Clarisse Mekongo, owner of Kulture Boutik, a local business and a returning vendor at the African Popup Festival.
