As the nation honors its labor force Monday, millions of New York workers are still reeling from the economic aftershocks of the pandemic.
They've seen their jobs transform, or vanish altogether. They've lost income and career prospects, and struggled to keep spirits up and food on the table. They've scrapped and scrimped, pounding the pavement for new work and honing their skills in the isolation of quarantine.
The pandemic "changed so much. It changed everything," said Jasmine Augustus, a 24-year-old CUNY student from Brooklyn who lost her job at a clothing store in March and hasn't been able to find work since.
