The New York City metropolitan area will be extremely hot from Tuesday through Friday, although Brooklyn is expected to be slightly cooler than parts of New Jersey and Connecticut.
According to the National Weather Service, the sweltering temperatures will be combined with high humidity levels, which will make it feel more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside.
NWS has issued heat advisories for Northeastern New Jersey, most of the Lower Hudson Valley and Connecticut’s Northern Fairfield and New Haven counties, the agency said. Heat advisories will likely be extended into New York City and Southern Connecticut later this week, the agency added.
High heat is a silent killer, posing a disproportionate threat to our most vulnerable residents: adults aged 60 and older, young children, and those with pre-existing health conditions like heart disease, diabetes, mental health conditions, or cognitive impairment, according to a press release from City Hall.
"New Yorkers should prepare for really hot weather this week, with heat indices possibly nearing 100 degrees,” said NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol. “Encourage the people in your life to beat the heat by limiting strenuous outdoor activity, staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, turning on the air conditioning, heading to the pool or beach, or spending time at your local library, museum or coffee shop.
